Trying to value things based on a range of “all civilization since the Sumarians” is often difficult. When was the most dangerous era? When were people happiest? One thing is not hard at all to value. When did women have the worst hair? Easy. 1985. Specifically, September through November of 1985 during the filming of Woody Allen’s Hannah & Her Sisters. The perm, the worst fashion statement in the history of civilized culture, is singlehandedly responsible. Seriously ladies, what was the deal with the perm? Intense curls, coiling around and around themselves in helixical intensity. Starch-treated hair refusing by its vary chemically altered nature to hang straight down. Stray curls blowing separating from the confused flock and hanging lonely and hideous on the cold wind of fashion conformity.
Let’s just make with the examples. Barbara Hershey before the perm:

Barbara Hershey after, as filmed in Hannah and Her Sisters:

Michael Cane, trying to speak with the perm:

Mia Farrow. Before the perm she looked like this and dated Frank Sinatra:

After the perm she looked like this and dated Woody Allen:

Woody Allen looks like this:
