THE JO-TEL … illegal blog downfield

One funny side-effect of this whole blogging/internet community scene is what we refer to as the “Network Voltron Effect”. To begin, “The Network” is basically our small group of internet buddies that send emails to each other at work. Pretty simple, but the people in this group have become good friends even though I’ve only met some of them a few times in person. However, when we do get together in person, an event often referred to as “Network Voltron”, we end up interacting like a bunch of social retards. A Network Voltron conversation feels sort of like trying to communicate with someone by rubbing the top of your head against the other person, with the vigor and speed of the rubbing the way to communicate ideas and thoughts.

Which is why I didn’t really have high expectations about meeting up with Jo-tel Fambly member Evil Queen Madga (”EQM”) (formerly Evil Prom Queen). I’ve always enjoyed EQM’s site because she updates frequently (very difficult) and has a unique and uniform voice (i.e. she doesn’t just post the first funny thing that comes to mind, unlike this site). Plus, she will often indulge us picture of her making a sexy pouty face. Like this:

As usual, things went better on account of everyone’s general drunkeness. But, in general, whenever a social outing includes a scene where I get up on a bar-stool and challenge to the rest of the bar to beat my high score at that brickbreaker game on the blackberry, it usually means people are having fun. No one accepted my challenge. Don’t fuck with my brickbreaker skills.

In addition to EQM, Jo-tel fave Becky B made a brief but delightful appearance. As did famously vitriolic commentar Linda, whose sardonic wit is always a welcome addition to any social gathering. Pictures (hold your mouse on the picture to see the person id) below the fold:
